Working from home!

Hello. My name is Edward Tugbiyele and I am one of the managers working at the Vodacom 4U in Fourways Mall.

As a result of the lockdown imposed by the government, my employer decided that we would be expected to work a few days from home and few days from the office. Working from home at first was a little bit inconvenient but as time went by, I began to adapt to it and took it as part of my new work routine. It could be fun and productive at the same time if you plan well. Remember "if you fail to plan, you are planning to fail."

Having said that. I am sure most of us have been expected to adapt our normal work routine and have had to attempt to be just as productive working from our homes. I would, therefore, like to recommend the following tips to our customers who are working from home or struggling to work from home. I believe these tips will go a long way in improving your work from home proficiency and productivity.

1. Identify what needs to get done every day and make sure to do it.

2. Create a workspace

3. Get dressed as if you were going to an actual office.

4. Be clear about your working hours.

5. Pretend you're not home

6. If you have kids, prepare for disruptions

7. Check in with co-workers several times a day.

8. Make sure you follow your work schedule for the day.

Furthermore, if you have chosen to or your job now requires of you to work from home, I would recommend that you get yourself a portable laptop with good speed and storage, if you don’t already have one. I would also suggest you make sure that whatever communication device you would use, is able to function as expected. If not, get yourself a proper working communication device like cell phones and WIFI routers. Last but not the least, make sure that you have a stable and uninterrupted network connectivity at wherever place you would be working from.

Happy working from home :)
